UK mortgage market hampering borrowing
Remortgaging, where people move their loans to new lenders but do not move houses, has slumped as the available funds have simply dried up. This has hampered UK buyers buying overseas as the most popular route to fund their new overseas property was by re-mortgaging their UK home.
The UK Government has a challenge to get the banks lending again for both new home buyers and existing home buyers wanting to release cash.
